They generally didn't have two names like the rest of us. In fact, they didn't even have enough respect for their own name or their own post to capitalize anything properly (including their own name).

This is almost the opposite. We found though that legitimate partners who wanted to contribute to our blog usually didn't mention a link in the comment. They just put their web-site in the box for their web-site URL.

Because of these two things, we decided to bar comments like the above completely from the Internet Business Box. Sometimes we miss a comment that would otherwise be valuable. Most of the time though we just miss out on having really dumb one line comments from clueless people and hard-core inappropriate comments from spammers.

Any comments left on an Internet Business Box powered blog will be from someone who owns their own web-site and was considerate enough not to post links promoting something in their comment.

We have one other way that you can personally get involved in comment moderation. Sometimes a comment might pass the above tests and even contribute to your site's profitability, but it might just be offensive to you.

In most cases, there are specific words that you don't want to see on your web-site. Maybe they are racial slurs or words that are more appropriate on adult oriented sites.

We have a solution for you.

You can create a badwords.txt file using Notepad and upload it to your dat folder. Put one bad word per line. Be careful not to use short words that might be appropriate when used as a syllable in a larger word.

Case isn't important. Put the bad word in all lowercase in your badwords.txt file. It will match any case of word in the comments submitted.

If you want to reject all comments, you could create a badwords.txt file that has an a on the first line, a b on the 2nd line and continued now to a z on the 26th line. Any comment that uses any letter of the alphabet will then be rejected.

That would probably result in the comment form itself being removed by the multivariate software eventually.

Comments can not be removed manually, but they can be edited and even completely blacked out. If you run into a situation where this is necessary, then go find the comment in your dat folder.

It will be in a file that is named starting with a comment-Blog and then will have the blog slug (the title of your blog with the spaced and special characters removed). After the blog slug will be a dash and then the comment number starting with 1. The file extension will be .txt.

Edit the file using any true text editor (Notepad, Textpad or Edit). Save it back to your dat folder.

Now to update the comments that are displayed on your blog using that source comment file, enter the following in the URL bar of your browser:

http://yoursite.com/ibb/ibb-bat-makecom-1.php

Change the yoursite.com to your own domain.

Ask yourself what caused you to have to manually remove that comment. If it was an offensive word or there was a word used that could be used to prevent future comments of that type, then add it to your badwords.txt file.

This should be a very rare or non-existing event. I haven't have to manually moderate a comment on any of my own sites in months. The automated moderation system works 99.9% of the time.

Negative reviews and negative comments from whiny people in general will be automatically removed because they hurt your profitability. The multivariate software can handle that part.
